Weeki Wachee, Florida – Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, located just north of Tampa on the west side of Florida, is a truly remarkable destination.

The heart of Weeki Wachee Springs is the headwater spring that emits a staggering 117 million gallons of fresh sparkling water daily. The spring is so deep that its bottom has never been found. It is also home to the famous mermaid show, which takes place several times a day. The show can be viewed through windows in a 400-seat theater that is built into the side of the spring.

If you plan on attending the world famous mermaid show, it is recommended to arrive early as the seats are first come, first served, and the theater fills up quickly. After the show, you can head over to the mermaid lagoon next to the gift shop for a meet and greet with the mermaids. It’s a chance to fulfill your lifelong dream of seeing a mermaid up close.

Water Park, Anyone?

Aside from the mermaid show, Weeki Wachee Springs offers a variety of other activities. Buccaneer Bay, located behind the mermaid theater, features two water slides: Pirates Retribution and Cannonball. These slides will have you feeling the thrill of excitement and wanting to ride them over and over again.

If you prefer to relax in the sun, there is a beautiful white sand beach where you can take a refreshing dip in the crystal clear water, which remains a cool 72 degrees all year long. You can also rent an inner tube for a lazy float on the natural river that flows around the swimming area and down Weeki Wachee River.

Back to Nature

For those interested in exploring further down the river, the Wilderness River Cruise is included with admission. This 20-minute cruise takes you down Weeki Wachee River, where you can spot wildlife such as jumping fish, eagles’ nests, turtles, manatees, and possibly even an alligator. After the cruise, you can visit the Ranger Experience in Exploration Point Theater, where you can learn about Florida’s native wildlife, including turtles, snakes, and alligators. Don’t forget to take a moment to enjoy the Tranquility Trail that runs along the river.

Food, Critters, and More

Weeki Wachee Springs also offers dining options, including the Mermaid Galley, Captain’s Quarters, Pirate’s Grub, the Snack Shack, and Wiki. While exploring the park, keep an eye out for the free-roaming peacocks that can be found throughout the area.

Kayaking the Weeki Wachee – A Favorite

For the ultimate adventure down Weeki Wachee River, kayaking is highly recommended. You can make reservations for kayak rentals at Wiki Wachee Adventures, the only kayak and stand-up paddleboard rental center located in Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. The 2.8-mile float down the river is a serene and beautiful experience, with crystal clear water and stunning scenery. Along the way, you may encounter fish, turtles, and even manatees.

The Park

Weeki Wachee Springs is a Florida State Park. Admission for adults runs around $13.00, which is a great deal considering all there is to do. It is important to arrive early during the summer months, as the park stops selling tickets when it reaches capacity. This usually happens by 11 AM or so during peak season.
