Netflix is set to expand its summer lineup with content from NASA’s own streaming service, NASA+. Viewers can look forward to live rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, in-depth mission reports and awe-inspiring, real-time footage of Earth as seen from the International Space Station. While NASA+ has been freely accessible through its website and app—and available on platforms such as Apple TV, Fire TV, Hulu and Roku—this will mark its first run on the world’s largest paid streaming service.

Exact dates for the NASA+ debut on Netflix haven’t been disclosed, but statements released to the press promise that “additional programming details and schedules will be announced ahead of the summer launch.” When it does arrive, the collaboration will bring space exploration stories to Netflix’s more than 240 million global subscribers.

Netflix’s move comes at a pivotal moment for the television industry. Traditional cable viewership has been in steady decline for years, while streaming platforms now command a larger audience than cable and broadcast television put together. For many viewers, watching from their phone or smart TV has become the new norm, squeezing legacy networks and reshaping how people tune in.

Rebecca Sirmons, general manager of NASA+, emphasized the agency’s mission: “Under the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958, we’re tasked with sharing our space exploration story far and wide. By bringing NASA+ to Netflix, we’re opening a Golden Age of Innovation and Exploration to anyone with a streaming subscription—whether they’re lounging on the couch or scrolling on their phone.”
