Southern Living just released a list of some of the best beaches in Florida. According to Southern Living, these beaches most closely represent the beautiful white sand and crystal clear waters that you might think of when you are talking popular Caribbean destinations – just a whole lot closer.
The feature highlights 20 beaches across the state that capture that tropical vibe, including:
- Bahia Honda (Big Pine Key) – Crystal-clear water and white sands ideal for snorkeling and scenic sunset views from the old Overseas Railroad bridge.
- Caladesi Island (near Clearwater) – Accessible only by ferry, this unspoiled state park preserves its native nature and offers mangrove paddling, shelling, and a historic homestead.
- Captiva & Sanibel Islands – Known for their aquamarine waters and famed shell-collecting shores (“Sanibel stoop” in action), perfect for leisurely beachcombing.
- Dry Tortugas National Park – Accessible only by boat or seaplane, noted for vivid coral reefs, vast open ocean, and historic Fort Jefferson.
- Grayton Beach & Siesta Key – Gulf Coast favorites. Siesta Key stands out with powdery quartz sand that remains cool under foot and was the only U.S. beach on the 2025 World’s 50 Best Beaches list .
Also included are lesser-known Gulf treasures like Cayo Costa, Keewaydin and Honeymoon Islands (wildlife galore, boating access), plus Atlantic-side escapes such as Cocoa Beach, St. Augustine Beach, Melbourne Beach, Vero Beach, and more.
Whether you’re after vibrant coral snorkeling, shell-laden shores, serene mangrove trails, or historic landmarks, this guide demonstrates that Florida’s sandy stretches can offer all the allure—and none of the passport hassle—of Caribbean getaways.
