Orlando – In Amateur Athletic Union Division II club hockey (AAU), The University of Central Florida Knights put a medieval stompin’ on the Eastern Carolina University Pirates Sunday afternoon (Jan. 12, 2025) at the Orlando Ice Den winning 13-4.
UCF Knights
The struggling ECU Pirates with a W-L-T record of 1-11-0 were simply no match against the UCF Knights with a record of 8-8-1, scoring only one goal in the first period. UCF, led by starting goalie Andrew Kass, scored as many points in the first as ECU did in the whole game.
Knights’ Massacre
After that, the massacre continued in the second with four more points for the Knights to ECU’s one. During the third period, ECU learned a valuable lesson: Pirates aren’t very good at stealing from Knights.
The Knights definitely are deserving of a hearty congratulations! It was hard, however, not to feel bad for Eastern Carolina as I watched them literally get pummeled. Watching one of the ECU dads call out to his son as he made his way back to the locker room, toss him an energy bar, and give him some encouraging words, I had to remind myself that these guys are still basically kids – at least to their parents – and not professional athletes. I thought back to my younger days in college sports and remembered how my parents did the same when I lost an event. Losing can and hopefully will be a catalyst for all these young athletes to push themselves to be better than they realize they are. And hopefully winning will have the same effect.
