Orlando KIA Center – The Orlando Solar Bears lose at home Friday night (Nov. 30, 2024) against the Jacksonville Icemen 2-1 at the Bears’ annual Underwear Toss game.
Periods One and Two
Both the first and second periods were hard fought and evenly matched with the Solar Bears and Icemen each taking 10-12 shots on goal yet never finding the back of the net. A relatively clean game as well with the first period seeing no penalties at all, and the second with two from both teams. One of the dual penalties was a nice fight between Bear Kelly Bent and Iceman Carter Allen.
Solar Bears First on the Board
It was Jimmy Mazza of the Solar Bears at 2:36 in the third period who had the first goal of the evening igniting a hail storm of undergarments thrown down onto the ice from nearly 7000 fans! The new undies and socks are donated each year to local school children.
Davis Koch, #39, scored for the Icemen nine minutes later tying the score and taking the game into overtime.
Overtime
Jacksonville seemed to have all the momentum over the Solar Bears in the seven minutes of overtime play shooting nine shots on goal to Orlando’s one. Then, with only 42 seconds left, #4 Noah Laaouan lit the lights bringing this exciting game to its end.
