Orlando City Firemen

The Orlando City SC doused the Chicago Fire last night 4-2 at the INTER&Co Stadium.

This game was what every Lions fan hopes the game will be. With a score of 3-0 in the first half and the very first goal four minutes into the game by #10 Facundo Torres, it was Orlando City who were the “fire.” The next two first half goals were by #9 Luis Muriel at 20 minutes and #77 Ivan Angulo at 29 minutes. I can only imagine the conversation in the Chicago locker room at halftime!

Stajduhar the Rejector

Though Torres was voted MVP of the game, it was goalie Mason Stajduhar, #31, who kept smothering the Fire’s attempts to get back into the game. Chicago took twelve shots on goal and Stajduhar rejected ten of them, tying former Lion Joe Bendik’s club record for saves in a single match.

Night of Lions

Though the Lions took control of the first half, it was Chicago who dominated the ball in the second round, though they could only find the net twice. Their first goal was by #7 Haile-Selassie at 53 minutes and #9 Cuypers at 69 minutes. Torres scored Orlando’s last goal of the game at 60 minutes. Dagur Thorhallsson had the assist on both of Torres’ goals.

Poor Call

Due to the excellent acting on the part of Chicago in the 83rd minute, #5 Cesar Araujo was given a yellow card. Team Captain Robin Jansson, #6, was not at all happy about the call and expressed his unhappiness to Referee Natalie Simon.
