American Legion Post 344 Hosts “Be The One” Event

Event to Target Veteran and First Responder Suicides
Be The One Banner

Merritt Island, FL.– American Legion Post 344 in Merritt Island, Florida, will host an event aimed at reducing the rate of veteran & first responder suicide.

The American Legion is leading a nationwide effort — “Be the One”— to eliminate the stigma related to mental health treatment, and in turn, lower the number of veterans who die by suicide every day.

The number of veterans & first responders who die by suicide every day is estimated at between 17 and 22. The American Legion has elevated Be the One to be its top priority, empowering veterans, servicemembers, their family members and civilians to act appropriately when a veteran may be at risk. This event intends to bring more awareness to the problem while providing resources to those who may be able to help save the life of a veteran.

The event at Post 344 is being held to bring awareness to veteran and first responder suicide.  The funds raised from this 5K will be forwarded to organizations to help end and prevent veteran and first responder suicide.  This may be a topic that many don’t want to discuss, but veteran and first responder suicide affect all communities.  Let’s show our support and help those who have unconditionally helped protect our communities both on the home front and across the entire world.
