There will be a very special payload on Monday Morning’s Peregrine Launch to the Moon, and it’s being sent by a 10-year-old!
Elizabeth Norman of Leicester, England,, aka “Astro Liz” has been working for years to stimulate the interest of the world’s young people in spaceflight. With a lifelong passion for all things space, Astro Liz is charting her own course to a career as an astronaut by encouraging her peers (and a lot of adults) to pursue an education in STEM, (Science. Engineering and Mathematics).
Her efforts did not go unnoticed by Astrobotic, the US company that manufactures the Peregrine Lunar Lander, When Elizabeth launched her own model Vulcan Centaur rocket at age 7, she caught the attention of Astrobotic. In cooperation with United Launch Alliance, the two companies invited Astro Liz to put her signature brand sticker “Astro Liz’s Lab” in a time capsule that will be on the lander. When the lander makes the first US landing on the moon in fifty years on February 23rd, Liz’s payload will be on board!
Liftoff is scheduled for 2:18 Am on Monday, January 8th. The Peregrine lander marks the first US return to the lunar surface in 50 years.
