NASA has received a “clean” opinion from an external auditor on its fiscal year 2023 financial statements.
This is the highest possible audit opinion and verifies that the agency adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for federal agencies. The financial statements provide a comprehensive overview of the agency’s financial activities and disclosures for fiscal years 2023 and 2022.
“For the 13th consecutive year, NASA continues to deliver an accurate and transparent report of our fiscal operations as we explore the unknown in air and space,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. “Under the leadership of NASA’s Chief Financial Officer Margaret Vo Schaus, NASA will continue to uphold the American public’s trust in our goals and missions and ensure best financial reporting practices, which are critical to the agency’s success.”
In Fiscal Year 2023, NASA operated with a $25.6 Billion dollar budget, with 18,325 employees. Of the $25.6B, $13.6B was dedicated to research, engineering and development, $9.4B was spent on agency operations, $1.3B on facilities and equipment, and the remaining $1.3B was devoted to grants.
Overall, NASA receives about 0.5% of all federal spending, or one-half cent of all US government dollars.
